Verizon Maybe Pops the Question, Proposes to Alltel

Reuters is reporting that Verizon wireless is in talks to buy out regional carrier Alltel wireless for $27 billion, a move that would have Verizon overtaking the No. 1 spot from ATT wireless. Sources familiar with the talks who declined to be identified, said the $27 billion would most likely come from debt and a small amount of cash. Alltel has about 13 million customers and a merger would put Verizon ahead of the pack with 80 million customers when all is said and done.

While Verizon has been making strides in becoming a more open carrier, we can't help but notice what will happen to Alltel customers and some of the nicer perks they get such as myCircle and exclusive phones. We'll just have to wait and see how this one pans out.

UPDATE: It's official!
